Classic Scary Movies to Watch This Month

It’s October and that means it’s time for scary movies, ghosts, witches, pumpkins, and Halloween. To celebrate this month, the Hunters Crossing Blog wants to share some classic scary movie suggestions. Pick one of these movies and get together with friends at your apartment for a scary movie night. Enjoy your October here in Newark, DE.

 

Dracula (1931)

After a harrowing ride through the Carpathian mountains in eastern Europe, Renfield enters castle Dracula to finalize the transferral of Carfax Abbey in London to Count Dracula, who is in actuality a vampire. Renfield is drugged by the eerily hypnotic count, and turned into one of his thralls, protecting him during his sea voyage to London. Dracula sucks the blood of Lucy then Mina’s. Mina’s father calls a specialist who finds out the truth. He tries to prepare them for what will happen next.

 

The Mummy (1932)

“In 1921 a field expedition in Egypt discovers the mummy of ancient Egyptian prince Im-Ho-Tep, who was condemned and buried alive for sacrilege. Also found in the tomb is the Scroll of Thoth, which can bring the dead back to life. One night a young member of the expedition reads the Scroll out loud, and then goes insane, realizing that he has brought Im-Ho-Tep back to life. Ten years later, disguised as a modern Egyptian, the mummy attempts to reunite with his lost love, an ancient princess who has been reincarnated into a beautiful young woman.”

 

Bride of Frankenstein (1935)

“Dr. Frankenstein and his monster both turn out to be alive, not killed as previously believed. Dr. Frankenstein wants to get out of the evil experiment business, but when a mad scientist, Dr. Pretorius, kidnaps his wife, Dr. Frankenstein agrees to help him create a new creature, a woman, to be the companion of the monster.”

 

Psycho (1960)

Phoenix office worker Marion Crane is fed up with the way life has treated her. One Friday Marion is trusted to bank $40,000 by her employer. Seeing the opportunity to take the money and start a new life, Marion leaves town and heads towards Sam's (her lover) California store. Tired after the long drive and caught in a storm, she gets off the main highway and pulls into The Bates Motel. The motel is managed by a quiet young man called Norman who seems to be dominated by his mother.

 

The Birds (1963)

Melanie Daniels always gets what she wants. When lawyer Mitch Brenner sees her in a pet shop, he plays something of a practical joke on her, and she decides to return the favor. She drives about an hour north of San Francisco to Bodega Bay, where Mitch spends the weekends. Soon after her arrival, however, the birds in the area begin to act strangely. Soon, birds in the hundreds and thousands are attacking anyone they find out of doors. Survival soon becomes the priority.
