August 30th is National Marshmallow Toasting Day and the 31st is National Trail Mix Day — two of our favorite camping snacks. To celebrate these holidays, the Hunters Crossing Blog brings you some camping tips for your next campout near Newark, DE. We’re bringing you some suggested locations to camp, snacks to bring, and tips to make your trip go smoothly.
For a close camping trip, visit Lums Pond (about a 20-minute drive). Lums Pond has great fishing as well as some beautiful trails nearby. You can also rent out yurts. Yurts are stationary structures with canvas walls and bunk beds inside. It’s an easier alternative to bringing your own tent and they’re much more spacious. Killens Pond is also a great camping option. It’s a little more of a drive (about an hour), but we think it’s worth it. Killens Pond has some great cabins that you can rent out for a relaxing weekend with family and friends.
S’mores over the fire are always a great idea and we highly suggest having a s’mores bar with all types of cookie and candy bar options. We also love this s’mores muddy buddy recipe though from Like Mother Like Daughter. For this mix, you’ll need golden graham cereal, Chex cereal, powdered sugar, peanut butter, chocolate chips, and mini marshmallows. It’s a great snack to enjoy while playing games in the afternoon with family.
This is a favorite of ours. It’s the perfect side to add to any meal or to snack on between meals. Add some tortilla chips for an easy and delicious snack. This recipe comes from Culinary Hill. You’ll need Roma tomatoes, black-eyed peas, black beans, sweet corn, red onion, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, and cilantro. You’ll also need other spices and ingredients for the dressing. We know you’ll love it!
One of our first tips for a successful camping trip is to make a packing list of what you’ll need. Use an online packing list or come up with your own. This will prevent any unnecessary disasters. If your camping space doesn’t have sinks, use an empty laundry detergent dispenser for a handwashing station. You can find all kinds of other great camping hacks online that are sure to make your trip easier.
